🌐 Wat Traimit
Just 5 minutes south of the hotel, near the "gateway" to Chinatown, is Wat Traimit, also known as the "Temple of the Golden Buddha." The Buddha statue is believed to have originated in Sukhothai, where it was crafted for Wat Mahathat more than 700 years ago, and was brought to Ayutthaya in the 15th century. Here, the gold was likely encased in plaster for safekeeping during the Burmese siege of 1767. Weighing 5.5 tons, it is the heaviest Buddha statue and probably the most valuable religious artifact in the world. Entrance to the temple costs 200 Baht. ➜Tip: From the terrace of the hotel 'The Quarter Hua Lamphong' (12th floor, just a few steps south by the canal) you have a great view of the temple.

🌐 Sun Wukong Shrine
A four-minute walk from the hotel on Rama IV Road is the small Chinese temple (open from 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM) dedicated to the Monkey King in Chinese mythology. His statue is carved from wood and is several hundred years old.

Railway Museum
The small Thai Railway Museum is located in Hua Lamphong Station. The entrance is on the left of the main portal. The museum is open from Tuesday to Saturday, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and admission is free. On display are model trains, historical photographs, and uniforms. A shop offers souvenirs. A spiral staircase sometimes provides access to the terrace above the portal. ➜Tip: Souvenirs include T-shirts, historical tickets, keychains and much more.

Khlong Phadung Krung Kasem
A canal built in 1851 to expand the city. This is the longest khlong (canal) in Bangkok, at approximately 21 kilometers. It was constructed by Chinese laborers between 1851 and 1854 during the reign of King Mongkut (Rama IV). Free electric boats depart northwards from Hua Lamphong Station (west side) and directly opposite the hotel at the 'Saphan Charoen Sawat 36' bridge. The canal flows after 4 kilometers into the Chao Phraya River at Thewes Pier. Enjoy a leisurely boat trip – departure times are available at the pier. On some weekends or public holidays, there is a night market by the canal. ➜Tip: Take the ferry to the last stop. Here you'll find the impressive Wat Devaraj Kunchon and the Golden Teak Museum.

🕥 Departure times: Monday to Friday between 06:00 and 09:00 and 16:00 and 19:00 every 20 minutes. Saturday and Sunday between 08:00 and 19:00 every hour.

🌐 Wat Mangkon
Either one stop on the MRT or a short 15-minute walk from the hotel will take you to Wat Mangkon (open daily from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm), the largest and most important Chinese Buddhist temple in Bangkok. Built in 1871 during the reign of King Rama V, it houses remarkable statues of Buddha and other Buddhist deities, including three golden Buddha statues at the main altar and a prominent statue of the compassionate Bodhisattva Guanyin.

🌐 Wat Debsirin
Along the canal, heading north – just a 15-minute walk or boat ride – and you'll reach this temple (also known as Wat Debsirindrawas Ratchaworawihan), built by King Rama V in honor of his mother around 1878. The centerpiece is the ordination hall with its intricate carvings and the important Buddha statue Phra Nirantarai. It's a sprawling complex, far from the usual tourist routes.

🌐 Chinatown
Just west of Wat Traimit begins Yaowarat Road; from here it's less than a 10-minute walk north to bustling Chinatown. During the day, the many alleyways offer a huge selection of shops, and after nightfall, an equally vast array of food stalls. For those who don't want to walk: take the MRT to Wat Mangkon.

🌐 Lumphini Park
It is only two stops on the MRT (20 Baht, Silom station, Exit 1) to Lumphini Park with its extensive lakes, exotic trees and plants, the statue of King Rama VI and the monitor lizards.

A café in a beautiful colonial building with a large selection of tarts, cakes, and croissants. Open daily from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, located just to the left of the hotel on the opposite side of the street.
